Samaritans is there for anyone struggling to cope, whatever they are going through. You do not have to be suicidal to call. The 116 123 line is free from landlines and mobiles including pay-as-you-go, needs no credit or call allowance, and does not appear on phone bills. Calls are answered by trained volunteers at one of more than 200 branches across the UK and Ireland, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Samaritans is gradually closing its UK email and letter-writing services during 2026; the phone line is unaffected. If a phone system blocks 116 123, 0330 094 5717 also reaches Samaritans at local call rates (this one does appear on the bill).
